How To Safely Cut Marble Using A Bosch Diamond Stone Cutter

Marble is a material widely used throughout the country, and in many an Indian home, marble floors, counters, and even walls can be seen; adding a touch of elegance and enduring strength.

If you enjoy a spot of DIY, you might want to know how to cut marble safely and effectively in your own home. Fortunately, provided you have the right tools, such as a portable and corded Bosch GDC 141 Diamond Stone Cutter, and follow the guidance outlined below, you should be able to do so with relative ease:

Use the right side of the blade for a straight cut

If you’ve never cut marble before, it’s best to practise on a scrap piece before grabbing your stone cutter and sawing away. Make sure the marble is firmly secured in place using a clamp, and never rush the cutting process; the quicker you cut, the greater the risk of the slab breaking, splintering, or chipping.

Protect the marble with foam or cardboard

When preparing to cut marble, lie it on a sawhorse or similar type of workbench, and place a piece of foam or cardboard on top of its surface to protect it as you move the saw over it.

Exercise caution with polishing agents

It’s always best to test a polishing agent on a small piece of the same marble before applying it to the entire slab. Where possible, use a handheld electric polisher at a low speed, to polish the surface using gentle, circular motions.

Take care not to fracture the marble

To stop the marble from breaking as you cut it, you can apply adhesive tape around the parts you want to cut.

Always use high quality tools

Using a wet saw or a Bosch GDC 141 Diamond Stone Cutter, will help ensure that you get a clean, smooth cut through the marble, and if you plan to cut marble on a more frequent basis (or similar materials), it would be worth investing in such tools from a reputable seller. Just take the time to read the user’s manual before doing so, and take all necessary safety precautions.

Don’t let the blade become too hot

If you’re cutting marble for any great length of time, it’s likely that the blade may get too hot, and if using a wet saw, try to keep the blade wet so that it can remain cool enough to cut effectively.

Wet cutting

Many professionals use this method of cutting marble, which helps to eliminate dust and other particles, while also keeping the blade cool for a deeper cut. If using this method, you must choose your saw carefully, and always maintain the blades for the best results. If you’re not familiar with this particular marble cutting method, however, it might be best to leave it to the professionals.

Protect yourself when cutting

Wear safety gloves and glasses while cutting marble, along with ear protectors to stop you from damaging your hearing.

While you might assume that cutting materials such as marble and stone should only ever be carried out by professionals, with the right tools – such as the Bosch diamond stone cutter - and the right guidance, you can easily and safely include it in your next DIY project.
